It's been 20 years, however, and games have come a long way since then. It was revolutionary for its time in a lot of ways. I loved Diablo 2 when it originally released, and played it so much. Long delays on the first ladder season meant that many players moved on before it finally started. Chat, lobbies, and friends lists functionality is poor, in many ways worse than the original. Crashes, inability to make/enter games, and then queues. There is always a chance that you are going to get molested by a conviction aura, stone skinned lightning enchanted bastard.Ĭould there be more QOL improvements? Yes definitely, but I don’t want it to turn into D3 since it is a different game at its core. Yes the game play is more clunky, but you almost never feel like you are unkillable. These are my reasons as to why I 100% prefer D2. This is all my opinion though because enjoyment and entertainment are very subjective. It almost encourages min/maxing, with diablo 2 you can still farm and do end game stuff with less gear and when gear does drop its so much more rewarding compared to gear being rained on you. D3 you can’t, granted skill does come into play in higher GRifts, but for the most part it’s your gear. D2 you can still kill stuff and make it work even with no gear. Having to plan your build around the areas you want to farm. The feeling of finding something you’ve never found before, or finding something that is a decent upgrade. I’d argue that the difficulty and slowness of D2 is what made it great. Diablo 2 is for different kinds of players vs Diablo 3. I know it is for me, that and farming other areas can still be very profitable instead of just rifts. For a lot of people though that is the appeal of Diablo 2.
